You can Slow Down Baldness and Hair Loss. In some Cases You Can Re-Grow Hair
Baldness and Hair Loss - Causes and Treatments
By Timothy Bahir
Hair loss on the body is a common experience. It is usual for a person to sheds approximately 100 strands of hair everyday. When it exceeds this amount the condition of hair loss turns to baldness.
Many of us fear the idea of having a bald head, which is a main reason many of us resort to hair loss treatments.
But some cases of baldness can be treated. Among men, hair loss can be hereditary, brought about by hormones that cause shrinking of hair follicles. With women, pregnancy and menopause may cause hair loss because of an upsurge of hormones.
Stress can be another cause, especially of hair loss in patches. Baldness may also be a consequence of certain medications, chemotherapy and surgery. Pulling a comb through tangles can pull out hairs as can over washing it or over blow drying it.
What can you do for hair loss and baldness ?
Successful treatment of hair loss is dependent on early intervention. The most effective topical hair loss treatment to date is Minoxidil, marketed under the brand name Rogaine, available over the counter at drugstores. Keep in mind that in order to maintain hair growth, Rogaine must be used on an ongoing basis. Rogaine is the only hair loss treatment approved by the FDA for use by both males and females.
Propecia originally developed by the pharmaceutical company Merck as a drug (Proscar) to treat enlarged prostate glands, noted an intriguing side effect: hair growth. Since Procepia had already been approved by the FDA to treat enlarged prostates in men, Merck pursued developing the drug as the first pill to treat male pattern baldness. Minoxidil, a topical liquid solution, was already on the market .Propecia is the first drug to treat male pattern baldness in the majority of men who use it.
Other treatments currently in use: Laser Hair Rejuvenation is a non-surgical treatment using low level lasers to deliver light energy for cosmetic treatment of thin, fine, and damaged hair.
Hair Transplant Surgery techniques are sometimes a viable treatment option for females. Check with your physician if this is right for you.
Non-Surgical men's hair replacement systems and additions simulate a natural appearance and offer the client an increase in overall hair density.
